Working Conversations Episode 90:
Why Procrastination is Your Friend (and How to Beat it Anyway)
Do you ever ALMOST sit down at the keyboard to write that work report, or important email, or maybe even a novel? But then you choose to do something else instead? Maybe answer email or clean your desk?
Our old friend procrastination shows up and keeps us from doing the important task. It happens to me every week when I sit down in the studio to record the latest episode of this podcast. Just when I’m about to start the important work of bringing you new ideas for the week ahead . . . some menial tasks show up and beg for my attention… and those tasks seem much more appealing than the steps for recording a podcast.
Sometimes, those tasks will bring me to the end of my work day. Then the podcast will have to wait to be recorded until the next day — In short, I procrastinate.
In this episode, I tackle the issue of procrastination. I unravel the reasons why we procrastinate and how can we move through it so that it doesn’t take over our productivity.
The good thing is that procrastination brings tremendous value. I explain what that is in this episode.
