Working Conversations Episode 91:

My Word of the Year for 2023 – And Why You Need One Too

Have you heard of having a word for the year?  The idea is to select a word that will guide you and bring focus and clarity to your life for the year.

And if you don’t like making New Year’s resolutions (like me), you may appreciate why I prefer to choose a word of the year instead.

Unlike a New Year’s resolution, a word is just there for me with no anxiety producing expectations. It just is. New Year’s resolutions often come with a lot of anxiety and stress, and then eventual disappointment of having failed at the resolutions.

Having a word for the year keeps my attention on the goals I have for the year – and motivates me toward achieving them. And in times when I feel overwhelmed or I find myself overthinking something, my word provides calm in the storm.

You need your word of the year for 2023 too! Having one means you’ll have a solid reference point for the year. It will feel like a sturdy guidepost, providing direction when you otherwise might feel lost.

In this episode, we dive into what a Word of the Year is and how choosing a word can be a great addition to your New Year plans. I also share the step-by-step process on how to create a Word for the Year, so you can feel confident in selecting a word for yourself!

On those days when you just don’t want to bring your best game, your word will remind you otherwise.
